Jonas Ignell is a Swedish artist living in Nøtterøy, Norway. He has specialized in figurative oil painting, mainly fly fishing motives. He has achieved great success for his remarkable ability to capture the magic of fly fishing. Ignell has always been fascinated by old objects in general and fly fishing objects in particular. is the feeling of history and soul in them that amazes him. He strives to capture the texture and the airiness, the very essence of them.
Jonas Ignell was born in 1966 in Sweden. At the age of thirteen he received his first set of fly fishing tools for Christmas, and since that evening he has been hooked on fly fishing.
At the same time he started his first artistic attempts, with both painting and photography. All his time and money was spent on either fishing or painting. Ignell is an educated photographer, and has previ- ously worked as a free lance photographer in Sweden, doing mostly advertising jobs.
Since 1999 he has been going to Paris to study for Maxime Picard at Port Royal Academy. Today he makes a living as an artist, while all his spare time is spent on fishing. Previously it was in Swedish waters, while now, living in Nøtterøy, it is mainly the Norwegian rivers, lakes and fiords.
